The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Shane Guyant:

On Sunday around 5 a.m., Lieutenant D.A. Newsome was traveling east on Tenth Street when he noticed the driver of a vehicle — Shovonte Lashawn Hardy-Simmons — driving left of center. Newsome conducted a traffic stop and noticed the 29-year-old Roanoke Rapids woman showed signs of impairment, which field sobriety tests confirmed.

She provided a breath sample of .12

Hardy-Simmons was charged with DWI and driving left of center.

She was released to a sober and responsible person. She has an October 11 district court date.

Larceny charge

On Friday around 10 a.m. police responded to a call of an alleged larceny suspect who was leaving a Premier Boulevard store with stolen merchandise.

Lieutenant M. Hunsucker located Michael Wayne Brown, 49, of Weldon, hiding in the woods near Nelson Drive at Meadowbrook Trailer Park.

Brown ran from officers but was caught by Sergeant J. Spragins without further trouble in the 200 block of Premier Landing.

He was still in possession of stolen property which was less than $1,000. The property was returned to the business.

Brown was charged with misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, and resist, delay and obstruct.

He received a $1,000 bond and November 4 district court date.

Teen sought in stolen vehicle case

On Tuesday around 10 p.m. Officer I. Nielsen was approached by two citizens who were looking for a family member's stolen vehicle from Northampton County.  The vehicle was described as a white El Camino.

Nielsen located the vehicle down a street off Highway 158.

Nielsen got a good look at two suspects inside of the vehicle, one identified as the passenger —  Xavieryon Semaj Harvey, 18, of Weldon.

Nielsen initiated a traffic stop but the driver fled, driving the vehicle at high speeds and in a careless and reckless manner.

Nielsen pursued the vehicle to the area of Branch and Hinson streets, where other officers joined. The driver went off-road at South Monroe and Hinson streets before losing control in the front yard of a home and colliding into a trash can.

The occupants fled on foot and eluded officers as they entered a heavily wooded area and crossed a large stream.

Documents inside the vehicle identified Harvey.

There was also an empty firearms holster in the vehicle which did not belong to the victim and led officers to believe the suspects were possibly while being pursued.

The vehicle was returned to the owner with minor damage sustained during the crash.

Harvey and the driver's whereabouts are unknown to law enforcement at this time.  There is an outstanding warrant for Harvey for felony possession of a stolen vehicle, felony conspiracy, and misdemeanor resist, obstruct, and delay.
