A man entered into a national criminal database from the state of Texas as a wanted person was arrested on Friday shortly before 1 p.m.
Phillip Wayne Coley II, 44, of Roanoke Rapids, was indicted on February 3, 2011, for theft from an elderly person.
North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper D.P. Efird received information Coley may be in the Roanoke Rapids area.
Efird, along with City County Drug Task Force agents D.R. Radford, D.W. Mckeel, J. Matthews and Gang Task Force Officer D.C. Dickens, went to the area of Oak Street and Roanoke Avenue and located Coley.
Halifax County Central Communications confirmed Coley was entered as a wanted person with full extradition.
Coley was arrested without trouble and processed at the Halifax County Magistrate’s Office where he was given a $20,000 bond and placed in the Halifax County Detention Center with a November 23 court date.
Marijuana arrest
On Friday at approximately 10:30 pm, Matthews was conducting a foot patrol at a local hotel near Interstate 95.
Matthews could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from a room.
Matthews encountered Anthony Rex Watson, 31, of Roanoke Rapids.
Matthews requested assistance and members of the Highway Patrol, Roanoke Rapids Police Department and Halifax County Sheriff’s Office patrol division responded.
It appeared Watson was in the process of attempting to flush some of the marijuana.
Matthews seized 270 grams of marijuana and items of paraphernalia which consisted of a digital scale, several containers and a box of plastic bags.
Matthews arrested and charged Watson for felony possession of marijuana, possession with the intent to sell/deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling/vehicle for a controlled substance and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
Watson received a $3,000 bond and January 25 court date.
