The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is broadening its search for a missing man, entering his name into a United States Department of Justice database.

Captain Bobby Martin said thus far there have been no new developments in the case of Gary Joe Youngblood, who was reported missing the early part of august.
Martin said entering the 30-year-old into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System is another identification tool in case he is found.
“I feel like someone who knows him, knows where he’s at,” Martin said. “We’re trying to help the family locate their loved one.”
Youngblood was known to frequent the area of Airbase Road and other areas associated with drug activity.
The last intense search for him was in the old airport area and yielded no results.
There has been no information to indicate he has left the area. “The last he was seen was in the area,” Martin said. “We did receive information at one point he was thinking about going back to Alabama.”
As far as a foul play, Martin said, “We haven’t heard anything at this point, whether he’s just somewhere and doesn’t want to be found. We would rather think optimistically.”
His family has been a huge help in the search, Martin said. “They’ve passed out flyers, have stayed in constant contact.”
Martin said law enforcement and the family only want to know whether Youngblood is safe. “He’s not in any trouble, there’s not anything outstanding on him.”
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444 or the police department at 252-533-2810.
