A cocaine trafficking charge, along with others, has been lodged following a raid this morning on Happy Drive in the P&J community outside Roanoke Rapids.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said the arrests of Cortez, 24, and Javon,22, Sesson came after an investigation which he said lasted for an undisclosed length of time as well as citizen complaints.
The City County Drug Task Force, with assistant of the sheriff’s office Hazardous Entry and Arrest Team, went to Happy Drive shortly before 9:30 this morning and executed a search warrant.
Agents, with assistance from Corporal P. Moyer of the sheriff’s office and his dog, Bosco, seized 36.2 grams of cocaine, some of which was packaged for sale in 32 individually wrapped bags and 36.1 grams of marijuana. They also seized two Hydrocodone pills, currency, paraphernalia, two long weapons and a handgun.
Tripp declined to comment on whether the task force would seek federal adoption of the case. He did say he “would consider them major players” in the Roanoke Valley drug trade.
Both brothers have previous records, Javon most recently getting a suspended sentence with three-years supervision for charges related to breaking and entering. He was convicted last December, state Department of Public Safety records show.
He is also scheduled to appear in court in October on driving and simple possession of marijuana counts, state court records show.
Cortez was convicted in April of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and common law going armed to the terror of the people, his prison record shows. He received a suspended sentence and three years supervised release.
The sheriff said in a statement task force Agent J. Matthews led the execution of the search warrant this morning.
Cortez was charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession of more than one-half ounce of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and possession of firearm by felon.
Javon was charged with possession with the intent to sell and deliver cocaine, felony possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce, possession of a firearm by felon and maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance.
Cortez received a $35,000 bond and Javon a $25,000 bond. Both have September 28 court dates.
Street value of the marijuana is approximately $180 and the cocaine is approximately $2,200.
