Pass for a purpose supports Derrin Featured

The Roanoke Rapids community came together Wednesday night at Roanoke Rapids High School practice football field for a purpose, to support RRHS sophomore Yellow Jacket Derrin Mallory.

Mallory's Jacket teammate Jack Neville came up with the event to support Derrin called "Pass for a Purpose" where anyone could raise money to pass a football to several collegiate players.

Mallory the son of Chaloner Middle School Assistant Principal Angela Edwards Mallory was recently diagnosed with leukemia and is under going treatment.

The special guest receivers on hand were: One of RRHS's Alumnus finest athletes, Current UNC Defensive player Nazair Jones;  RRHS Alumnus standout, and current ECU Season Kickoff school record holder, Jonathan Caleb Pratt;  RRHS Alumnus leader and award winning varsity Center and Defensive tackle and current scholar athlete and member of the UNC Pembroke wrestling team, George Arrington;  RRHS Alumnus three sport athlete and UNCW baseball player, Clay Lockamon;  Allen Jackson, Defensive End from Duke;  Jonathan Lewis, Receiver from Duke.

Current Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets football players, Roanoke Rapids Police, Weldon Police, Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp, RRHS staff and residents of the Roanoke Valley came to Jackets practice field to support Mallory in his fight.

In the end of the night, Jack Neville with help from his mother Treva and father Robert Neville and many friends, Ms. Mallory was presented $3,327 to help with travel and medical expenses for Derrin's fight.
