Melissa D. Pelfrey, candidate for District Attorney for the new District 6 (comprised of Bertie, Halifax, Hertford, and Northampton Counties), wants residents of those counties to review the annual statistics compiled by the state Administrative Office of the Courts when considering their choice of the candidates for District Attorney.
The new District 6, which will come into effect as of January 1, 2015, represents the consolidation of the current Districts 6A (comprised of Halifax County) and 6B (comprised of Bertie, Hertford, and Northampton Counties).
(A PDF provided by the candidate is contained in an attachment file at the end of this letter)
Pelfrey is the District Attorney for 6A, and is running against Valerie Asbell, 6B District Attorney, to lead the new consolidated District. Although the numbers of cases filed in the two districts have been pretty similar, the state Case Activity Reports show significant differences in how those cases have been handled.
I believe the residents of our four counties owe it to themselves to see what’s been going on in the two districts over the past couple of years, and decide for themselves what type of service they want from their DA after the consolidation.
The statistics have been compiled by my office and are available on my website.
The base data is available at the AOC website.
