We are at the beginning of a transformation in politics in Halifax County.

As we move toward the primary election May 6, 2014, candidates in the Democratic Primary are vying for the selection of a potential sheriff.

Knowing that only one individual will clearly emerge as the “winner,” this individual will move on to the November 2014 election. Right now, the slate of candidates looks rather crowded and congested.

Each Democrat running in this primary clearly attests to his or her excellent skill set as sheriff. Remember – only one candidate will emerge victorious. Enter Mark Macon, Chief of Police in Weldon, NC.

Mark is a staunch Democrat and demonstrates excellence in his bid for Halifax County Sheriff. He understands that each registered voter, no matter what political party affiliation, wants an opportunity to vote for the candidate of his/her choice.

His decision to run on the “unaffiliated” platform is a strategic move that will truly benefit his supporters.

He aligns himself with the values of the Democratic Party. His progressive and forward thinking for the future of Halifax County citizens is his main priority. Political liberty allows candidates like Mark Macon to move above the status quo which has a clutch on the ballot access.

Your political liberty allows you, as a voter, the freedom to choose your candidate from a political spectrum of Republican, Democrat or Unaffiliated candidate. That said, Mark is not changing political parties, as some think he is.

He is the strongest Democratic candidate for Halifax County Sheriff.

By running unaffiliated, he feels that he will have better success serving all citizens of Halifax County as the next elected sheriff. The right to vote is one of our most cherished and important rights in our democratic system.

Without the right to vote, only a few would make the choices that affect every single one of us in our daily lives with little to no recourse to protect our life, liberty and happiness.
