Betty Smith Johnson gained her wings and departed this earthly life, on May 23rd, 2019, to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the love of her life Gene.

Surviving Betty are: two daughters, Teresa Johnson Long and her husband Rabbit, and Sheila Johnson Wood and her husband Jimmy , all of Halifax, NC; two sisters Mary Grizzard , her husband Eugene, and Brenda Kay Thornton, all of Gaston, NC; four grandchildren, Danielle Long Maynard and her husband Chris, Jessie Long Lynch and her husband Aaron, Courtnee Gray Wood, and Hayley Cheryl Wood; four great grandchildren, Blake Maynard, Brody Maynard, Logan Lynch and Harper Lynch.

Her father James E. Smith, her mother Jessie Wilson Smith and her brother Wayne Smith, preceded her in death.

Betty loved dancing, walking the beach and looking for shells with Gene. She and Gene were fixtures at their grandchildren’s ballgames. She spent many hours working in her flower beds and watching the birds around her bird houses. She also enjoyed relaxing in her swing. Most of all, she loved her Awesome God, her husband Gene, her family and “Pretty Things.”

The family will receive at Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Services, 1015 West Fifth Street, Roanoke Rapids, NC, Sunday, May 26, 2019, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home Chapel, Monday, May 27, 2019, at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Ricky Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
