James Grover Dixon, Sr., 82, of Halifax, passed away on Thursday, May 14th, 2026, at home peacefully surrounded by his family.  

Mr. Dixon was born May 5, 1944, in Edgecombe County, NC, the son of the late Andrew Franklin Dixon and Sadie Mae Hale Dixon. 

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his loving wife, Camilla; and siblings, Gladys Ezzel, Lucille White, Sally Griffin, Andrew Dixon Jr., Lawrence Dixon, Murray Dixon, Pat Dixon, William Dixon, and Robert Dixon. 

He leaves to cherish his memory his son, James “Jimmy” G. Dixon, Jr. (Donna) of Chocowinity; his grandchildren, Brandon Dixon (Megan) of Greenville, and Kyle Barnes (Amanda) of Washington, NC; his great grandchildren, Ella Blake Barnes, Graham Barnes, and Collin Barnes.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 19, from 12 noon until 2 pm at Wrenn Funeral Home, 1015 West 5th Street, Roanoke Rapids.  

A Graveside Service will immediately follow at Cedarwood Cemetery with Pastor Jack Franks (Retired) of Greenville, NC officiating.
