William Herman Conwell, 83, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024 in his residence.  

Mr. Conwell was born in Halifax County on October 21, 1940, the son of the late Leatha Della Bright and Elmo Lloyd Conwell.  

He is also preceded in death by his siblings Rose Conwell Drake, James Norfleet Conwell, Annette Conwell Storey, and Bonnie Conwell Carroll. 

Mr. Conwell enjoyed walking, eating out, and during his daily “roundabout.” 

He also enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. 

He served our country and was a member of the National Guard of North Carolina prior to joining and serving two years in the United States Army.   

He later enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Vietnam on the USS Virgo. 

Surviving include his nieces Rose Drake Goforth of Greenville and Sheree Drake Brubaker (Ron) of Grimesland, his nephew Tim Drake of Conway, and many other extended family members.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Hockaday Funeral & Cremation Service with Rev. Daniel West officiating.
