John Lemuel Fitzhugh Jr 86 of Garysburg, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by family at ECU Health Medical Center on Wednesday June 19, 2024.  

John was born on March 3, 1938, in Halifax County.  He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ruth Fitzhugh and his loyal dog “Baby Luv.”

He is survived by loving wife of 65 years Shelba “Jane” Hinson Fitzhugh, his son John W. Fitzhugh & wife Donna of Ahoskie, his daughter Raye F. Warren & husband Chip of Garysburg, grandchildren Jennifer Ott & husband Timmy of Garysburg, Jessie Langley & husband Alex of Rocky Mount and Jonathan Fitzhugh of Roanoke Rapids, his great grandchildren Brooke Ott, Bryce Ott, Lennox Langley and Lyllian Langley, his brother Andy E. Fitzhugh of Garysburg and sister Jane Fitzhugh Williford & friend Cheryl of Ahoskie.

John was a member of Garysburg United Methodist Church, lifetime member and officer of Woodmen Life, a Mason for over 39 years at Roanoke Lodge #203 in Weldon then Royal White Hart Lodge #2 in Halifax and he served his country in the Army National Guard.

He loved the outdoors, fishing for rockfish on the Roanoke River in Weldon, camping, listening to and playing country music with Darrell and Moody and most importantly he loved his family unconditionally.

Visitation will be Monday June 24, 2024, 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Hockaday Funeral Home & Cremations, grave service will be on Tuesday June 25, 2024, at 3:30pm at the Garysburg United Methodist Church 305 Old Highway Road Garysburg with Pastor Sue Owens presiding.
