Lizzie Mageline Dickens Tritt, 96, of Roanoke Rapids, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at Liberty Commons.

Lizzie was born December 8, 1922, to the late Alexander Cobb and Zola Phelps Cobb. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Claude Dickens and Edwin Tritt; three brothers, Henry Cobb, Millard Cobb and Joe Cobb; her sister, Zelma Hobbs; Edlar Dickens and Wade Dickens.

Lizzie is survived by her son, Tony Dickens and his wife Barbara of Roanoke Rapids; her sister, Marie Thomason of Roanoke Rapids;  step-children, Edward Tritt, Jr of Lancaster, PA and Diane Hilliard of Roanoke Rapids; many nieces and nephews; step-grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Lizzie, nickname “Sally,” worked at JP Stevens Rosemary Plant for sixteen years.  She left the mill to take care of her son and to help take care of family, friends, and enjoyed working in her yard.  She was very active in her church, First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She enjoyed cooking, canning and freezing with her mom.

In her later years she relocated to Carolina Rest Home in Roanoke Rapids for approximately 4 years.  Later, she spent the rest of her life at Liberty Commons in Weldon.

She enjoyed a long life with 96 years, and watched her family and friends grow through the years, including all the caretakers that grew to love her and count her as family at Liberty Commons.    

Lizzie’s family expresses a deep appreciation to Dr. Isaac Miller, and those at Liberty Commons, who took such good care of her.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Roanoke Rapids First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Matthew Smith and Rev. Keith Thomason officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 P.M. prior to the service.
