Sonny Harris, former mail and newspaper carrier, passed away October 31, 2018.  

He was born on the Harris family farm in Garysburg, NC, in December 1938, to Marvin C. Harris and Sarah (Sweet) Turner Harris.

Early in life, he moved to Weldon, NC, where he attended school, worked, and retired.  

After graduating from high school, Sonny enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Korea with the combat engineers.  

Upon returning home, he became a mail carrier with the Weldon Post Office.  

He retired from the USPS after 35 years of service.  

He was also known by many in the Weldon area as their Daily Herald carrier for many years.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Catherine Harris Hudson, and a brother, Rudy Creel.  Also passed are his extended family of in-laws including Donald Hudson, Margaret Daughtry, Hubert Edwards, Wayne Edwards, and Frank Edwards.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marie Edwards Harris; daughter, Amy Burnette and husband, Charles; son, Henry C. Harris, Jr.; and grandsons, Andrew and Matthew Burnette; brother, Marvin (Junior) Harris and wife, Lou; sisters-in-law, Diana Creel and Jean Edwards; brother-in-law, Vernon Daughtry; and numerous nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends at Hockaday Funeral Home from 12:30-1:30 pm on Wednesday, November 7th, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm in the Hockaday Funeral Home Chapel.  

Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon, NC. The family will receive other times at the home of Charles and Amy Burnette.
