Peggy Ann Mitchell Porch, 72, died Friday, May 18, 2012 in Halifax Regional Medical Center.
Peggy was born in Halifax County, June 1, 1939 to the late William Henry Mitchell and Lucy Moore Mitchell. She grew up in Weldon and during that time, attended Weldon Baptist Church. She was a weaver in the textile industry with JP Stevens/Bibb mills. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, John Henry “Gun-Gun” Shelton; brothers, Roscoe Mitchell, Edward “Bubba” Mitchell, Wallace Mitchell, William “Bump” Mitchell, and Franklin D. “Boo-Boo” Mitchell; sisters, Susie Elias and Jeanette Mitchell; niece, Joann Simpson and nephew, Edward “Lucky” Palmer, Jr.
Surviving is her daughter-in-law, Tammie S. Shelton of Roanoke Rapids; sisters-in-law, Mabelle Mitchell, Rosa Mitchell, both of Roanoke Rapids, and Shirley Mitchell of Virginia. Also surviving is her granddaughter, Elizabeth Shelton.
A graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Michael Mooneyham, Monday, May 21, 2012 in Cedarwood Cemetery, Weldon, at 11:00 am.
