William Ira Shaw was born to Caswell Eure Shaw Sr. and Naomi Dickens Shaw and raised in Halifax NC.

He led an idyllic and charmed life there with his older brother Caswell Eure Shaw Jr.

William Ira, as he was affectionately called by his NC family and friends, was a boy scout and earned his eagle scout. He attended Halifax Elementary, Weldon High School and then Georgia State University — all where he played sports and wrestled.

Around1966, he moved to Kentucky where he became known as Bill Shaw. Over the next 55 years he fell in love with the Bluegrass State and called it home.

He was a salesman and built several businesses throughout his life starting with insurance, a Dude Ranch, Real Estate broker, a bed & breakfast, and horse farm tours, but his true passion was horse farm development, it was everything he loved wrapped into one.

He never met a stranger, if you did not know him when you first met him, you were kissing cousins by the time you parted.

He was always thinking about the next big idea. He was a dreamer, and always dreamt big. He loved horses and everything that Kentucky had to offer and enjoyed sharing that love with anyone who would listen.

He loved his Stetson cowboy hat and boots and looked good in them too! He could dance and was an incredible lead, he could “cut a rug” with the best of them.

I stood in line many times to dance with him. He could cook, made a mean Brunswick stew and of course steak! He had a beautiful voice and could sing and auctioneer.

He was a connoisseur of classical music and enjoyed a good pianist and piano bar. I pray he has found his friends in heaven and they are dancing and singing "Georgia" at the great piano bar in the sky!

He was preceded in death by his father Caswell Eure Shaw Sr. and his mother Naomi Dickens Shaw.

He leaves behind his daughter Ginger DeSha Shaw Adams, granddaughters Mahalia "Hallie" DeSha (16), and Charlotte Ann Adams (14). His brother Rev. Caswell Eure Shaw Jr., his wife Pat, his nephews Glenn (Elspeth) and David (Marsha) Shaw and their beautiful families.

Graveside Services will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 12:30pm in the Halifax United Methodist Church Cemetery.
