James Charles Williams, 80, of Rocky Mount, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday October 21, 2018 at his home.

James, a native of Granville County, was the son of the late John Louis and Frances West Williams.

He graduated from Oak Hill High School.

He started his law Enforcement career in Oxford as a police officer for several years.

He then became Chief of police in Enfield and then Fairmont , retiring there after 35 years in law Enforcement.

He then went to work with the Roanoke Rapids Graded School district as the attendance officer and bus coordinator, retiring after ten years of service.

James was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids and Oxford Masonic Lodge # 122.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Harrell Williams; his two sons, Michael Williams and Sharon, and Steve Williams  both of Oxford; step-daughter, Debra Vester and her husband, Lee of Rocky Mount; step-son, Robert Rivenbark and Cyndi of Rocky Mount; his sister, Joyce Ann Wilson and her husband, Mac of Oxford; five grandchildren, Megan Williams and , Cody, Carson Taylor and her husband, John, Jayson Vester and his wife Ashlea and Joshua Vester and Amber, Zachary Rivenbark and several nephews and great nephews and a great niece.

Memorial services will be held Thursday October 25, 2018 at 12 noon at Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, with Rev. Randy Martin officiating.

The family will receive friends, from 11 a.m. until service time at the Church.
