Mary Elizabeth Dickens Alford (Eib) 89, died Tuesday January 7 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Elizabeth, a native of Halifax County, was the daughter of the late James Raleigh, Sr. and Lucy Ester Warren Dickens. She was preceded in death by her husband Sam Nash Alford, son Sammy Vince Alford, a sister Lula Dickens Loflin and three brothers James R. “J.R.” Dickens, Jr., Grady Dickens, and Aubrey Dickens.

She was a life-long member of Rocky Swamp Primitive Baptist Church having served as secretary. She was a resident of the Darlington area and recently resided at Carolina Rest Home. 

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Sheila Garner Alford; 2 granddaughters Karen Alford of Roanoke Rapids and Weslee Billiter and her husband Jeff of Rocky Point, NC; two great-grandchildren Brody and Parker Billiter; one sister Peggy Auten and her husband Dean of Irmo, SC; three brothers Winford Dickens and his wife Rose of Lake Gaston; Johnny Dickens and his wife Jean of Williamston and Perry Dickens and his wife Hortense of Roanoke Rapids; sister-in-law Gwen Alford; along with several nieces and nephews who were all very special to her. 

The family will receive friends Friday from 10-11am at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids and at the home of Sheila Alford. 

Funeral Services will be held Friday January 10, at 11am in the Chapel of Askew Funeral Services with Elder Kenneth Windham officiating. 

Interment will follow in the Rocky Swamp Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
