Joseph “Joe” Edward Sawyer, 77, of Gaston, NC, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019.

He was born in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, to the late Beecher Alton Sawyer and Devona Russell Sawyer.

He retired from Halifax Regional Medical Center as the food service director after 40 years of service; was an avid hunter and fisherman; member of Lakeside Hunting Club and he loved to cook and have friends over.

“Joe” is survived by his wife Marguerite Sawyer; his sister Jean Weeks of Elizabeth City, NC; his Nephew, Charles Hudson and his wife, Marion of Gaston, NC.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 2PM at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids, NC with Ronnie Russell officiating.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services 731 Roanoke Ave. Roanoke Rapids, NC.
