Weldon City Schools has hired a new principal for Weldon Elementary Global Academy and a new finance office for the district.
Principal
Tenesha Lee is the new principal of Weldon Elementary Global Academy.
Lee joins the school from her current role as assistant principal at Bunn Middle School in Franklin County Schools where she has served since 2022.
With a strong background in elementary education, Lee has also held positions as an instructional coach, site coordinator, and kindergarten teacher.
Additionally, she spent a year teaching second grade abroad in Dubai, broadening her educational perspective.
Lee holds an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Elizabeth City State University, a master’s in Teaching and Learning in Elementary Education, and an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and School Administration, both from Liberty University.
“Her extensive educational background and hands-on experience in school administration and elementary education makes her a dynamic leader for Weldon Elementary Global Academy,” said Interim Superintendent Rodney Shotwell. “Ms. Lee brings a variety of experiences with her to this new leadership opportunity at Weldon Elementary Global Academy. Her experience and strong understanding of teaching and learning will be an asset to our students and staff.”
Shotwell also extended his appreciation to Eric Pullen and Darrick Wood who both served as interim principals at Weldon Elementary during this transitional period.
“The Weldon City School Board looks forward to Ms. Lee’s leadership and her positive impact on the students, staff, and community at Weldon Elementary Global Academy,” the board said.
Finance officer
Cathy Kidd is the new finance officer for the school system.
“Ms. Kidd, a current resident of Weldon, brings a wealth of experience and deep knowledge of public school finance,” the school board said. “She joins Weldon City Schools from her current role as the assistant finance officer for Vance County Schools, where she has demonstrated exceptional financial leadership.”
Kidd is no stranger to Weldon City Schools, having previously worked within the district’s finance office and human resources department. “Her familiarity with the community and the school system makes her a perfect fit for this critical role,” the board said.
The finance officer position in Weldon City Schools had been vacant for nearly a year. During this time, Matilda Campbell, a seasoned finance professional, came out of retirement to lead the department. “The board would like to thank Ms. Campbell for her dedication and leadership during this transition period.”
Shotwell said, “Ms. Campbell has been the right person to come and stabilize the system’s finances, and I am very grateful for her guidance during my tenure.”
Of Kidd, Shotwell said, “Ms. Kidd brings an extensive background in school system finance and will continue to provide outstanding leadership for the staff, students, and community.”
Said the board: “Weldon City Schools looks forward to the future under Ms. Kidd’s financial leadership, confidence in her ability to manage the district’s resources effectively and support the continued success of Weldon’s students and staff.”
