The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Major Anzell M. Harris:
Tuesday around 7:30 p.m. Ariel Lee Stone Jr., 35, of Roanoke Rapids was being processed into the Halifax County Detention Center when during a search of his property heroin was located in his backpack.
Detention Officer Q. Govan located the narcotics and Deputy C. Joseph arrived and charged Stone with possession of a controlled substance in a jail/prison and possession of heroin.

Stone remains in the detention center with a $5,000 secured bond for the drug charges and a $6,000 secured bond for an identity theft charge lodged by the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.
He has an October 24 district court date.
Possession of firearm
On Tuesday Deputy D. Wilson was patrolling the Weldon area when he observed a vehicle pulling into a driveway with the back end still in the roadway in the 800 block of Washington Avenue.
Three occupants fled from the vehicle. Leon Wiggins, 34, of Virginia, remained in the vehicle.
A firearm was located during the investigation.
Wiggins was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon.
He remains in the detention center with a $7,500 secured bond and September 29 court date.
