The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Major Anzell M. Harris:
Shooting death arrest
A 26-year-old Weldon man was charged Tuesday in a Sunday night shooting death.
Edward Lamonte Everette III faces charges of murder, going armed to the terror of the people and carrying a concealed gun.

The victim was identified as a 43-year-old man who was confirmed deceased by Halifax County EMS in the parking area of Holly Court. Deputies who arrived that evening around 8 found the man sustained a gunshot wound. The sheriff’s office has not released the victim’s name.
During the investigation, detectives obtained warrants for Everette’s arrest.
The sheriff’s office criminal investigations and patrol divisions with assistance of the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force located and arrested Everette in the Weldon area without trouble.
He was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has an August 29 district court date.
The Weldon police and fire departments also responded to assist during the initial call.
Sexual assault
On Tuesday shortly after 3 a.m. deputies responded to the area of Highway 122 in Hobgood following the report the alleged sexual assault of a juvenile.
Further investigation conducted by the CID identified Miguel Alcoba, 45.

After collecting additional information and evidence, Detective G. Keel obtained warrants on Alcoba for attempted statutory rape, first-degree statutory sex offense and assault on a child under 12-years-old.
Later that evening, investigators and patrol deputies located and took Alcoba into custody.
He was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has an August 29 district court date.
