Four men were arrested and charged this morning for possession of a vehicle stolen from New Jersey.

Three of the men were from Somerset, New Jersey and one was from Emporia.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Shane Guyant said it was not clear how the men knew one another.

Around 3 this morning the police department received a Flock Safety alert about a stolen vehicle entering the city limits.

Master Officer K. Williams spotted the vehicle traveling on Roanoke Avenue.

She conducted a traffic stop and observed the driver — Isaiah Jah-Lil Surratt, 20, of Emporia — get into the backseat while the passenger — Malahkyle Scefton Reid, 20 — got into the driver’s seat.

Sergeant C. Hagbourne and Officer S. Pate assisted.

Hagborne attempted to identify the passengers in the rear of the vehicle.

At first, Kenadre Sakir A’Zhaun Isaiah Williams, 20, of Somerset, was uncooperative, however his name was later revealed and confirmed. The second rear passenger was identified as Jeremiah Silas Bradley, 20 of Somerset.

Lieutenant D.A. Newsome confirmed the vehicle was stolen.

All occupants were placed under arrest and Guyant said Reid told Officer M. Morris he had marijuana stuffed down his pants.

Williams conducted a search and found a semi-automatic pistol under the driver’s seat. Furthermore, marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia were found inside the vehicle.

Surratt was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. He received a $15,000 bond.

Reid faces the same charges as Surratt with an added charge of resisting a public officer. He received a $20,000 bond.

Williams faces the same charges as Reid and received a $20,000 bond.

Bradley was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and received a $10,000 bond.

They all have August 29 district court dates.
