The Halifax County School District has openings for membership to its school board committees. 

“This is a unique opportunity for community members to become actively involved in shaping the future of education in our district,” the school system said. “We encourage members of our community to contribute their skills and perspectives to help drive positive change in our schools.”

Seven committees have been formed. 

These committees will provide focused oversight and strategic direction in key areas, ensuring that the system continues to meet the needs of its students and community effectively. 

Policy Committee

Headed by Carolyn Hawkins, the committee is responsible for developing and reviewing school policies to ensure that operations are effective and compliant with regulations. 

Audit Committee 

Headed by Terri Silver, the committee oversees the district’s auditing processes and financial reporting. 

Building & Grounds Committee 

Headed by Michael Hawkins, the committee is responsible for managing various aspects of school facilities. 

Finance Committee

Headed by Barbara Wilkins, the committee guides the district’s financial strategies and supports its long-term fiscal health. 

PR & Technology Committee

Headed by Claude Cooper, this committee focuses on enhancing the district’s communication strategies and integrating innovative technology into educational environments. 

Curriculum Committee 

Headed by Joyce Lashley, this committee specializes in reviewing and updating academic programs and curriculum to ensure alignment with best practices and educational standards.

Long-Range Facilities Committee 

Headed by Charles Hedgepeth, this committee focuses on strategic planning and the implementation of infrastructure projects to ensure that school facilities meet current and future demands.

“The Halifax County Board of Education is seeking committed individuals who are passionate about education and have a strong desire to contribute to the success of our schools,” the school system said.
