As a woman charged in the stabbing death of her 10-year-old sibling remains incarcerated in the Halifax County Detention Center, a search warrant filed in the clerk of courts office sheds details on the events leading to her arrest and what evidence was collected when the sheriff’s office responded to the Beaverdam Road area of Enfield Tuesday night.
Court records show that Kaneijah Bradley Wednesday in district court was not allowed release, the documents noting further pending charges other than the murder charge lodged against the 22-year-old woman Tuesday.
Search warrant
In his application for a search warrant, which was filed today, Detective A.C. Wood noted the sheriff’s office responded to a report of a possible missing person around 10:40 Tuesday night.
The mother was unable to locate her daughter and the “smell of bleach was strong in the house.”
The mother stated to dispatchers that Bradley “could have done something to the child” and they could overhear the mother “asking someone where her baby was.”
When deputies arrived they found the mother outside near a household trash dumpster holding her child. The child’s body had several lacerations.
Inside the house a kitchen knife was located on the edge of the kitchen counter. In what was identified as the victim’s room multiple dark spots were located on the floor and mattress.
The items seized from the house are as follows:
DNA swab from the kitchen cabinet
Knife from edge of the sink
Knife from the dish drain in the kitchen
Two DNA samples from blood splatter on a TV stand in the victim’s room
Purple curtains from the victim’s room
Cutting from the mattress in the victim’s room
DNA swab from the victim’s room wall above the bed
Black and purple vacuum
DNA swab from the rear interior door knob
Victim elimination fingerprints
DNA swab from chest wound
DNA swab from victim’s cheek
Cutting of carpet from victim’s bedroom
Black trash bag “that decedent was partially in”
Roll of black trash bags
Gallon jug of disinfectant with possible blood on it
Proceedings
Court records show a probable cause hearing related to the murder charge has been scheduled for January 25 at 9 a.m. in Halifax County District Court.
The warrant regarding the murder charge says Bradley willfully and feloniously did, with aforethought of malice, kill and murder the victim.
Her release from custody was not authorized based on pending court dates for the following charges that aren’t related to Tuesday’s victim:
January 29 superior court date: Felony assault with a deadly weapon with serious injury and felony larceny of a motor vehicle.
These charges reflect the assault of a male victim with a box cutter and stealing his 2004 Acura.
February 26 superior court date: Felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.
She is charged with striking an officer in the face with an object.
In a misdemeanor assault count she is charged with scratching and slapping a female victim and then grabbing her and hitting her in the back.
