The Weldon Police Department continues to investigate the shooting deaths of Levita Webb and Dexter Miles which occurred two years ago to today’s date.

The two were shot and killed in the 400 block of Chestnut Street and Chief Christopher Davis said investigators are “still diligently looking for the suspect (or suspects) involved in this horrific crime.”

Last year the police department had to renew its investigative efforts after charges against two men were dismissed.

A dismissal form for Jason Keith Alston noted that there was insufficient evidence to warrant prosecution because after the charges were filed additional evidence came to light showing that the defendant was not in the state of North Carolina at the time of the crime.

The document said a second interview of the surviving victim showed conflicting stories in how the crime occurred and there was no corroborating evidence existing to reinforce the victim’s statement regarding the defendant.

The dismissal form for Omar Ponton said there was no evidence which existed that showed he actually committed the crime and no evidence that the defendant participated in the commission of the crime.

Last October Governor Roy Cooper issued a reward proclamation of $25,000 for the capture and conviction of anyone involved.

“Please help us locate the people involved in this incident to give some type of closure to the families of Ms. Webb and Mr Miles,” Davis said.

The police department said at the time Webb and Miles were found inside the residence while the third victim was found down the street in the general area after fleeing.

Officers arrived at the location of the shooting and learned three people had been shot.

Webb and Miles were pronounced dead at the scene.
