Weldon police are investigating the fatal shootings of a man and a woman and, as of this report,  the non-fatal shooting of a third victim.

The shootings occurred shortly after 1:30 this morning in the 400 block of Chestnut Street.

Chief Christopher Davis said this morning he was not in a position to release the names of the victims and investigation continues to determine motive in the case.

The victims who died were found inside the residence, he said, while the third victim who was taken to an undisclosed medical facility after initial transport to Vidant North was found down the street in the general area after fleeing, Davis said.

There are currently no vehicle or suspect descriptions in the case but Davis said investigators are working on leads in the case. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting.

In a statement this morning Davis said officers arrived at the location of the shooting and learned three people had been shot.

The man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene. The condition of the third victim, a man, was not immediately known.
