The Weldon Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Christopher Davis:

Sunday shortly before 9 p.m., Lieutenant L. Melton conducted a traffic stop on a driver for traveling the wrong way east on Second Street on a one-way street in the parking lot of Family Dollar.

While conducting his investigation, Melton noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Melton identified the driver as Ja'liek Montreal Grant and a front seat passenger as Nasir Demarco Futrell, both 19 and both from Rich Square.

Melton located 15 grams of marijuana and a concealed handgun.

Both individuals were written state citations for their charges.

Grant received a citation for driving the wrong way on a one-way street, simple possession of marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon.

Futrell received a citation for simple possession of marijuana.

Both Grant and Futrell received December 14 court dates.

Corporal H. Cross assisted.

Saturday shortly after 12:45 a.m., Corporal S. McKimmey noticed a vehicle without headlights on.

McKimmey conducted a traffic stop off Highway 158 near Walnut Street and identified the driver as Marcus Antoine Blount, 30, of Roanoke Rapids.

Davis said McKimmey noticed several signs of impairment while conducting his investigation. Blount was later placed under arrest for driving while impaired and was taken before a Halifax County magistrate.

He was charged with DWI and failure to burn headlights.

Blount received a written promise to appear in court on December 30.
