The Roanoke Valley Aging Expo has returned for the 31st year to provide participants opportunities to learn about programs and services offered in the area.

Representatives from the North Carolina Secretary of State, Department of Insurance, and the assistant North Carolina attorney general will also be on hand to share strategies on how to protect yourself and your loved ones from scams targeting older adults.

A mobile shredder will also be available to safely dispose of any paper items that may contain personal information.

The Aging Expo will be on Thursday, October 6 at the Kirkwood Adams Community Center in Roanoke Rapids from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

This year’s theme is “Safe Aging: Keeping Older Adults Secure from Scams”.

Attendees will have the opportunity to see exhibits and receive information about various health, education, social and cultural resource programs offered to senior adults in the Roanoke Valley.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day with a grand prize drawing at the end of the Expo.  You must be present before lunch to win.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to receive a free health screening that includes: blood pressure, height, weight, and an eye screening.  Refreshments will be provided for you after the screenings.

For the first 200 people that turn in their registrations by September 9, a free box lunch will be provided.

Registrations can be picked up at the Jo Story Senior Center for Active Adults, the center’s Facebook  page as well as any other area senior center in Halifax or Northampton counties. A downloadable PDF is also included at this link

Interested seniors can sign up in advance by September 16, or register at the door.

For all others, make sure you come back after lunch for the grand door prize
