Halifax County Schools recognized Maribeth Aguila as the District Employee of the Month for April.

Currently, Aguila serves as a media coordinator at William R. Davie STEM Academy and Everetts Elementary STEM Academy.

The school library media coordinator provides leadership for the school library media centers. They share responsibilities with the teaching staff to ensure students will be ready for their future careers and prepare for life in the 21st Century.

They collaboratively create, align, and implement programs for the school and the district.

They transformed the library media center into a 21st Century learning environment — both virtual and physical — and shared space for knowledge construction, collaboration, and inquiry-based learning.

They assist teachers with similar transformations.

Aside from the management of the daily operation of the media center, Aguila is also in charge of the Chromebooks for students in both schools, including minor issues with technology. Additionally, Aguila is in charge of both schools' social media and web pages.

“Mrs. A is a wonderful co-worker and goes above and beyond her duties,” said Christi Pittard. “She is our librarian, but so much more as well. She keeps our Facebook and webpage up to date and helps with technology and anywhere else needed.”

Superintendent Eric Cunningham said, “Mrs. Aguila's dedication and commitment to our scholars is wonderful, and we are so glad to have her here in Halifax County Schools.”

Aguila said, “I am so grateful to be chosen as the employee of the month. I am very thankful to my principals Mr. Biles and Mrs. Sessoms and my co-workers for believing in me. It is an honor to be of service to my Everetts and Davie family in a simple and little way I can. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.”

Student of the month

Halifax County Schools April student of the month is Heaven Miller.

Miller attends Scotland Neck Elementary Leadership Academy and is a Pre-K student.

Pre-K teacher Rose Williams said, “Heaven was chosen Student of the month because she is very determined to reach her goals and is persistent. Heaven doesn’t give up; she continues to try until she gets it. Overall, Heaven is an all-around student.”

Cunningham praised the student for an awesome job and encouraged her to continue to strive for five.

Heaven’s favorite subject is art. Her favorite hobbies are helping others and playing with her peers.

Heaven's advice for other students is “to be friends and play together.”

Heaven's thoughts about school and being selected student of the month is, “ Great. I love my teachers and my friends.”
