The Halifax Resolves Chapter received multiple awards at the North Carolina Sons of the American Revolution annual meeting in Greensboro Saturday.

In the Small Chapter Category, the chapter placed:

First in the USS Stark Memorial Award recognizing their support to veterans. 

First in Americanism recognizing the chapter’s educational outreach activities, community outreach and acknowledgement of community leaders in perpetuating the goals of the SAR.

Honorable mention in the President’s Streamer recognizing their efforts to achieve the administrative goals of the SAR and who contribute to the success of the SAR.

First place in the Thomas N. “Nat” Clark Outstanding Chapter category, which is based on the combined scores of the Americanism and President’s Streamer categories.

Halifax Resolves Chapter Treasurer Steve Avent was elected as the Region 1 vice president and chapter President Ken Wilson was awarded an oak leaf cluster for the Silver Roger Sherman Medal for his efforts over the past year.

Jones honored

Also during the meeting chapter Chaplain Emeritus Duncan H. Jones was one of two members selected to become Honorary George Washington Fellows.  

The state society will donate $1,000 in the name of each individual to the National SAR George Washington Endowment Fund that supports various national and state projects.  

Wilson presented the award to Jones at his home with his family present.  

The citation reads: “Duncan Haywood Jones is awarded the NC SAR Honorary George Washington Fellow.  Acknowledgement is hereby made by the North Carolina Society, Sons of the American Revolution for selfless dedication and outstanding support of the cause and mission of the SAR.  The SAR is indebted to Compatriot Jones for his many contributions, leadership and inspiration to the society.”
