A 16-year-old Littleton girl died Saturday night following a collision on Highway 158 near Little Deep Creek Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Trooper R.P. Dennis said he charged 24-year-old Haileigh Plyler of Roanoke Rapids with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving left of center.

The crash occurred around 10 p.m. as Plyler was driving a vehicle east on Highway 158.

The trooper said Plyler traveled left of the center line and struck a vehicle driven by Lanekia Harvey, 39, of Littleton. Dennis said Harvey’s vehicle was struck head-on.

The collision caused Harvey’s vehicle to come to an uncontrolled rest in the highway while Plyler’s vehicle came to an uncontrolled rest off the roadway.

Harvey’s vehicle caught on fire and the three occupants of her vehicle were pulled out. People Dennis described as Good Samaritans attempted to perform CPR on Harvey’s daughter — Shaniya. The attempts were unsuccessful and the 16-year-old was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Lanekia Harvey sustained serious lower body injuries and was flown to Greenville, Dennis said. He said she was alert and talking. An updated condition report was not immediately available.

Lanekia Harvey’s younger daughter sustained minor injuries.

Dennis said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
