The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following:

Chief Bobby Martin said on Friday around 1:30 p.m. Captain Jamie Hardy was patrolling the area of Fourth and Madison streets when he noticed suspicious activity by several people who are reputedly known to sell drugs.

Hardy went up a block and came back to speak with the people about the activity.

A person later identified as 31-year-old Jamonte Gorham from the Gaston area began walking away. When Hardy asked him to stop he began running from the area.

Narcotics agent C. Batchelor and Sergeant M. Worrell were in the area and assisted in attempting to get Gorham in custody.

After a brief foot chase he was taken into custody.

The officers observed him throwing items during the chase and that he appeared to have something in his waistband.

Officers located 3.05 grams of fentanyl and a handgun in the area. The handgun was reported stolen.

At the police department 3.30 grams of marijuana was located in Gorham’s pocket.

Gorham was charged with resist, delay and obstruct, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of schedule II, and possession of schedule VI.

He was also served with an order for arrest and a warrant for probation violation.

He received a $5,000 bond for Hardy’s charges, a $1,000 cash bond for the probation violation, and a $1,000 bond for the order for arrest. He has a May 18 court date.

Lieutenant D. Hundley assisted.
