Events that led to the charges began as Deputy D. Bybee was patrolling in the area of Highway 158 and Roanoke Avenue around 8:45 that evening.

He observed a motorcyclist traveling east on Highway 158 at a high rate of speed.

Bybee attempted to stop the driver, later identified as Garrett, but the driver refused to heed.

A chase ensued and Garrett led Bybee on a 7-mile chase to Branch Avenue. Garrett failed to negotiate a turn at the intersection of Carver Street and he crashed into a ditch. Garrett fled on foot but was apprehended after a brief chase.

Garrett has a November 30 court date pending.
