Patricia Branch, a registered nurse in Vidant North’s Behavioral Health Unit, was honored with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's mission to recognize extraordinary and compassionate care that nurses provide patients and families every day.

Branch was nominated as this quarter’s award recipient by a colleague who recognized her compassion, dedication and commitment to her patients and their families and to the community as a whole.

“She is the epitome of a nurturing and caring nurse who strives to do her very best in providing quality care and is always willing to lend a helping hand to her team members when needed,” her nomination said.

Patients, families or colleagues may nominate nurses and recipients are chosen by a Vidant Health committee on a quarterly basis. Each honoree receives a certificate, a special celebration, a keepsake pin and a sculpture called A Healer’s Touch.

“We are proud to be among the healthcare organizations participating in the DAISY Award program that honors exceptional nurses,” said Susan Suiter, vice president of patient care services. “Many times, the humility of nurses is overwhelming as they will say that they are just doing their job. Actually, they are our everyday heroes, doing their work of art and heart, and The DAISY Foundation provides a way for us to remind them of just how valuable and incredible that they are. I am so very delighted for Patricia.  She is a role model recipient of this wonderful award.”

The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died from complications of an uncommon auto-immune disease.

The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
