The Halifax County Schools Vikings Information Technology Help Desk based on the campus of Northwest Collegiate and Technical Academy, will prepare students for a career pathway in computer engineering and other IT pathways.

The IT Help Desk is an internship work-based opportunity, which offers skilled students an opportunity to get paid for working while in school and a chance for employment in a technological occupation upon graduation.

The program will help students gain technical and high-level academic skills; thus, equipping them to be lifelong learners.

The desk will introduce students to the global marketplace by offering experiential learning, post-secondary credits and industry certifications.

Students will have an opportunity to earn credentials or certifications in the Computer Engineering Pathway.

These industry-recognized credentials include: CompTIA IT Fundamentals+, CompTIA 1001 A+, and CompTIA A+ 1002.

The Help Desk has an added benefit by providing in-house technical support for the district-wide Chromebook distribution initiative.

Students not only gain IT background and methodology; they also gain hands-on experience in the role of Help Desk service support personnel, Help Desk technician, customer service, problem-solving and incident management, help-desk analyst, and other employability skills. There have been approximately 200 Chromebooks sent to the Viking IT Help-desk since the beginning of this school year.

“Halifax County School’s vision is to empower all students to confidently and successfully transition into postsecondary and career opportunities and become positive, contributing members of society,” said Superintendent Eric Cunningham, “We are excited to bring this innovative project to the students of Halifax County Schools.”
