An 18-year-old died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash on Hedgepeth Road in the Darlington community Wednesday.

Sergeant Levern Bynum of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the crash occurred shortly before 1:15 p.m.

Bynum said, according to a preliminary report by Trooper J.S. Mizelle, Michael Devon Murray was traveling south on Hedgepeth Road at a high rate of speed when the pickup he was driving went off the roadway to the right. He overcorrected and the vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left. The vehicle collided with a ditch and a tree.

Bynum said speed and overcorrecting were the contributing factors in the crash.
