A live fire training exercise Saturday will close Park Avenue from the Forest Hills Shopping Center entrance to Ninth Street.

The Roanoke Rapids Fire Department will eventually burn down the former Green Realty Office at 916 Park Avenue, Assistant Chief Jason Patrick said.

The avenue will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Patrick said there will be live exercises beginning inside the building which are open to any area volunteer fire departments. “It’s not too often do you get the opportunity to do live training.”

By the end of the day the fire department will burn the building down.
