The victims in a town limits shooting in Scotland Neck are recovering at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, the police department said in an update this afternoon.

Captain Tommy Parker also corrected an initial statement which had incorrectly reported a juvenile victim was 6-years-old. The child is 13, he said.

Parker said the four victims in the 300 block of East Thirteenth Street had chest wounds, leg and arm wounds. “We have determined that an assault rifle and a handgun was used in the shooting.”

The victim in the county shooting was an adult male and was traveling on Highway 903.

Parker said the police department has identified suspects in the case and are currently working on appropriate charges. “We have also located and impounded several vehicles involved in the case. Rocky Mount police and Scotland Neck police were able to locate what we believe was the suspect vehicle — a white Dodge Charger — in Rocky Mount.”

That vehicle and two others involved in the case have been recovered and are being processed.

Parker said the shooting was part of an ongoing dispute between several individuals at the East Thirteenth Street residence and the case is considered isolated.

Meanwhile, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the part of the shooting which occurred outside the town limits.

Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the sheriff’s office said this afternoon it is believed the shootings are connected, however, investigation continues.

In a statement today Hall said as deputies were assisting Scotland Neck police in the East Thirteenth Street shooting, it was discovered another shooting occurred on Highway 903 near Winslow Road just outside the town limits.

Deputies located two shooting victims on Highway 903 in the Martin County town of Hamilton.

One victim refused treatment while the other was transported to a local medical center and is in stable condition.

The Scotland Neck town limits crime was described as a drive-by.

In all, five people were shot.

The shooting inside the town limits occurred at Greenwood and East Thirteenth streets.

Two of the victims in the in-town shooting were inside a vehicle while the others were on the porch of a residence.
