A man wanted in a June 2 sexual assault in Weldon was located and arrested by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office this morning.

Weldon police Chief Chris Davis said Joshua Jackson, 32, was arrested shortly before 8:15 a.m. at his Roanoke Rapids residence.

He was taken before a magistrate and was jailed without opportunity for bond. He has a July 1 court date.

Davis said Monday Sergeant T. Mason of the police department obtained a warrant for the arrest of Jackson following an investigation by himself and Officer M. DiPietro.

The officers arrived at the 500 block of Cedar Street shortly before 10:30 p.m. after receiving a domestic call.

They spoke with the female victim and discovered she had been sexually assaulted.

Mason obtained a warrant on Jackson for second-degree forcible rape against an adult.
