Weldon police Chief Chris Davis reported the following:

Police are looking for a Roanoke Rapids man wanted in a June 2 sexual assault.

Sergeant T. Mason of the police department obtained a warrant for the arrest of Joshua Johnathan Jackson, 32, following an investigation by himself and Officer M. DiPietro.

The officers arrived at the 500 block of Cedar Street shortly before 10:30 p.m. after receiving a domestic call.

They spoke with the female victim and discovered she had been sexually assaulted. 

The accused was not on the scene.

Mason obtained a warrant on Jackson for second-degree forcible rape against an adult.

On Saturday shortly before 2:45 a.m., officers H. Cross and S. McKimmey responded to the area of Chestnut Street about shots being fired. 

Soon after arriving, they received a call to Vidant North Hospital about a woman who had been shot in the area.

Cross responded to the hospital where she learned the victim was being airlifted to a trauma unit in critical condition. 

Sergeant L. Melton and Mason assisted.

Davis said the shooting occurred outside at a gathering. Thus far there are no suspect or vehicle descriptions.
