Thirteen youth baseball teams were welcomed to Ledgerwood Field this morning as the U-9 Cal Ripken Southeast Regional Baseball Tournament got under way.
“If you came here a year ago, you wouldn’t believe you were at the same location,” said Al Haskins of First Media Radio, referring to work behind the scenes to get the fields in shape for the games.
Haskins served as master of ceremonies for welcoming portion of the event, introducing the teams and dignitaries as well as honorees Dicey King and Alton Dickens, both instrumental in Roanoke Valley youth baseball.
King threw out the first pitch.
