The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

August 31

At approximately 3:35 p.m., Master Officer Mark Peck responded to a call about a possible breaking and entering at a residence on Briarcliff Road.

The victim told Peck, Lonnie Lee Wood, 18, of Roanoke Rapids, broke into the residence and assaulted her.

The victim told Peck, Wood called at least 16 times that day.

While officers were still at the residence, Wood returned.

Peck arrested and charged him with breaking and entering, assault on a female, harassing phone call and trespassing.

Wood received a $10,000 bond and a September 25 court date.

Sergeant Terrence Tyler and Officer Chris Biggerstaff assisted.

At approximately 4 p.m., Tyler responded to a call at Park Avenue and Twelfth Street about a person fighting.

Tyler saw a man go inside a residence on Twelfth Street and when he approached he could hear someone yelling, “get him out of here.”

Tyler entered and detained Joshua Shane Dickens, 24, of Roanoke Rapids, for safety and investigative reasons.

Tyler learned there was a dispute between family members leading to a fight between them.

Tyler arrested and charged him with possession of drug paraphernalia found during a search.

Dickens received a $1,000 bond and a September 18 court date.

September 1

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Master Officer Gerald Morris responded to a call about a motor vehicle collision in the parking lot of Walgreen’s.

During his investigation, Morris detected the strong odor of alcohol on Takala Nicole Richardson, 35, of Warrenton.

Morris arrested and charged Richardson with driving while impaired and failure to reduce speed.

She was given a $500 bond and October 12 court date.

Officer Patrick Smith assisted.

At approximately 10 p.m., Officer Ryan Cross conducted a stop for a traffic violation on Fifth Street and Roanoke Avenue.

Cross arrested the passenger, Cody Daryl Ballero, 20, of Broadnax, Virginia, on several outstanding orders for arrest.

After taking Ballero into custody, Cross spoke with the driver, Joshua Lee Barham, 18, of Broadnax, about the traffic violation.

Cross noticed a strong odor of alcohol and arrested and charged Barham with driving while impaired and driving on a revoked license.

Barham received a $500 bond and October 23 court date.

Lieutenant Charles Burnette and officers Joey Spragins and Smith assisted.

September 2

At approximately 4 p.m., Officer Jonathan Benthall arrested Jeffrey Videl Williams, 42, of Weldon, after he came to the police department to turn himself in on outstanding warrants from the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office for two counts of obtaining property by false pretense and two counts of embezzlement.

Williams received a $4,000 bond and a September 9 court date in Northampton County.

September 3

At approximately noon, Biggerstaff responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention told Biggerstaff, Gloria Jean Harrison, 53, of Weldon, took items from the store without paying for them.

Biggerstaff arrested and charged Harrison with larceny and possession of stolen goods,

She received a $3,000 bond and September 22 court date.

Officer Jason Williams assisted.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., Williams responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention told Williams, Louise Irvin Harrison, 54, of Weldon, took items from the store without paying for them.

Williams arrested and charged Harrison with larceny and possession of stolen goods,

Harrison received a $500 bond and September 22 court date.

At approximately 2:45 p.m., Biggerstaff responded to a larceny call at Walmart.

Loss prevention told Biggerstaff Jamie Ann Smith, 31, of Emporia, took items from the store without paying for them.

Biggerstaff arrested and charged Ms. Smith with larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Because she was out on other charges, she received a $10,000 bond and September 22 court date.

At approximately 6:15 p.m., Benthall arrested Terrance Thomel Whitehead, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, after he came to the police department to turn himself in on outstanding warrants from the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office for three counts of obtaining property by false pretense and three counts of embezzlement.

Whitehead received a $4,000 bond and a September 17 court date in Northampton County.
