Roanoke Rapids police and Halifax County Sheriff's Office investigators have issued warrants for the arrest of a man wanted in two drive-by shootings occurring five minutes apart this afternoon.

The agencies have filed warrants for the arrest of Kevin Lee-Andre Davis, 28, of Roanoke Rapids for two counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property and four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

One person was injured, Detective Obert Wiltsie of the sheriff's office said this evening, but not from gunfire. He said it was too early to speculate whether the injury was the cause of a shrapnel wounds.

Davis was arrested last year in a shooting on Carter Street in which Investigator Bobby Martin of the police department said this evening involved the same victim who was apparently being targeted today.

He would not go as far to say last year's shooting was linked to today's shooting. It was not immediately clear what the outcome of Davis's court case was in last year's matter.

Wiltsie and Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty both believe the shootings today were related.

The first shooting was in the city limits of Roanoke Rapids, at approximately 3:25 p.m., Martin said in a statement.

That's when officers responded to the South Rosemary area at Highway 158 and Highway 48 following a shooting call.

The shooting in the county occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the Community Trailer Park area.

In the South Rosemary shooting, bullets went inside the May Mart and an apparent targeted vehicle. May Mart is across the street from Bobby's, Hasty said.

Martin said in the statement the South Rosemary matter involved the same suspect shooting into the occupied vehicle as it sat at the traffic light headed west on Highway 158. The two occupants inside the vehicle were not injured, but the car sustained damage.

Meanwhile, Wiltsie said in the statement a home at Community Trailer Park was shot into while two people were inside, one receiving minor injuries.

Wiltsie said a motive has not been established.

Wiltsie said Davis, who is considered armed and dangerous, tends to frequent the South Rosemary area.
