Warrants have been issued for three more people in the June 22 shooting death of Jarshamel Cambridge, the Halifax County Sheriff's Office reported this afternoon.
The arrest warrants issued for Kenneth Wescott, Jequan Deont'e Kimble and Matthew Lewis Simms, all of Enfield, mean a total of eight people face charges of murder in the case, Sheriff Wes Tripp said.
Four are currently in custody and four, including the three who have just had warrants issued, remain on the lam.
Once the four are in the custody, the murder case will be wrapped up unless additional people are charged with aiding attempts to elude arrest, Tripp said.
Explaining why a total of eight face murder charges in the case, Tripp said, “There were people there who were active participants and through investigation probable cause was found to charge them as participants to the principle charge of murder.”
Wescott, 20; Kimble, 23; and Simms, join Dexter Taylor as the only ones yet to be apprehended in the case. The four are believed to be armed and dangerous and possibly frequent the Enfield and Rocky Mount areas.
In addition to the eight who face murder charges, there are two in custody charged with accessory after the fact of murder. “I would caution that anyone providing aid to these suspects in eluding arrest is subject to felony charges under North Carolina General Statutes and will be charge accordingly,” Tripp said in a statement.
That the case is near completion, the sheriff said, has been due to what he described as diligent work by investigators “under the leadership of Lieutenant Joseph Sealey. They have worked as they do on all cases. Their mission when working murders is to bring some type of closure to the victim's family.”
Anyone with information on their whereabouts is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
