One man is in custody and the victim stable following an early morning shooting in Garysburg Sunday.
Delvonte Arrington, 27, of Gaston, was charged around 5 p.m. Sunday, according to Chief Melvin Garner of the Garysburg Police Department.
Arrington was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault by pointing a gun, going armed to the terror of the people and discharging a weapon in city limits.
The charges stem from a shooting occurring in the parking lot of the Garysburg Community Center off Highway 46 where the victim was shot several times.
An ongoing dispute between Arrington and the victim apparently led to the shooting, Garner said in a statement. He declined to elaborate this afternoon.
The victim remains hospitalized but is in stable condition. Garner declined comment on where upon the body the victim was shot.
Investigation by Garysburg Officer Marcel Goffington and the State Bureau of Investigation led to the charges filed against Arrington.
The department was also assisted by Chief George Reed of the Seaboard Police Department, Captain M.D. DeLoatch Sr. of the Northampton County Sheriff's Office and Sergeant Chris Boden and his dog Dusko of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.
Arrington was jailed on $150,000 bond and is scheduled for a first court appearance Tuesday.
