A Roanoke Rapids man apparently paid for the gas, but left the Oakland Mini Mart with a box of Snickers, a bottled drink and a quart of oil.
This, according to Investigator Bobby Martin of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, is what happened on Friday around 9 a.m. when a man he identified as Joseph Boone Jr., 44, entered the store on East Tenth Street.
The candy was pulled off a display rack and concealed as well as the drink and quart of oil. The man, Martin said, did stand at the counter and appeared to pay for gas.
Martin has obtained warrants for Boone's arrest on charges of larceny and possession of stolen goods.
Boone tends to frequent the Highway 48 area of Roanoke Rapids between Straight Road and P&J Drive. “Over the course of my law enforcement career I've had several encounters with Mr. Boone,” the investigator said, mainly for larceny cases.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Boone is encouraged to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
