One person was shot and killed and another is in serious condition and being treated this evening.

Roanoke Rapids police are still tracking down leads in the shootings, which occurred at Gordon Drive near the Oak Street intersection around 4 p.m.

Police Chief Andy Jackson investigators do not have any suspect descriptions at this point.

At the scene investigators waited for an ambulance to arrive to take away the person who was fatally wounded. Paramedics and officers held a white sheet to obscure the sight of the victim being taken out of a black car from people watching from sidewalks and porches.

Around 4:35 the ambulance left the scene.
