The Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors announced the winners of the Business Awards for 2014.

The winners will be honored at the Business Awards Luncheon on Wednesday at noon. The event will be held at the Mystique Multi-Venue Complex located off Highway 125 in Roanoke Rapids.

This event is sponsored by Roanoke Rapids Savings Bank and Roanoke Valley Savings Bank.

According to Jay Carlisle, chair of the Roanoke Valley Chamber of Commerce, “The Chamber celebrates business because of the contribution they make to the local economy and the community. It is always exciting to recognize businesses for going the extra mile for the community.”

The Minority Business of the Year award goes to Sabrina Webb of Catering and More.

Catering and More is a full service caterer that Webb has grown from scratch.

Webb survived the great recession and still plans to open a restaurant. Her catering business has grown as the number of employees she employs.

The Chamber’s New Business of the Year award winner is Janelle and Blaine Given of the Roanoke Cinema. This couple has taken an old business and made it new and exciting. Improvements done to the cinema are profound. New digital equipment and screens have transformed the theatre into an attraction.

The 2014 Small Business of the Year honors David Watson of david’s Restaurant and Catering.

david’s Restaurant has emerged as a model of fine dining and catering.

Watson has grown the business over the 15-year span that he has been in Roanoke Rapids.

David has supported numerous organizations while building a strong catering business and creating a destination restaurant.

Robert Purser, manager of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Southeast Regional Office, will give updates on the U.S. Chamber, the upcoming elections and the 113th session of Congress.

Purser oversees the Southeastern Region for the United States Chamber of Commerce and the congressional and public affairs for eight southeastern states: Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
