A man out on probation for drink machine break-ins was arrested again by Roanoke Rapids police.

Damien Purnell Artis, 26, was arrested by Lieutenant Charles Burnette and Sergeant Daniel Jenkins after what Captain Andy Jackson said was a call by an alert citizen shortly after 12:30 this morning that someone was possibly breaking into a drink machine outside Tender Moments on East Tenth Street.

Burnette and Jenkins encountered him in the area, allegedly holding a crowbar in his hands.

Officer Terrence Tyler charged him on warrants for breaking and entering a coin-operated machine and and damage to a coin-operated machine.

Meanwhile, the police department received a call later this morning about the break-in of a Pepsi machine outside Bill's Appliances on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.

After viewing videotape, Officer Chris Babb filed warrants around 8:45 this morning for the same counts Tyler filed in the Tender Moments case.

Artis received a $2,000 secured bond on Tyler's charges, and has a July 2 court date.

In April, Artis received a suspended sentence and 48 months of supervised probation for similar crimes committed in 2013.
