An alleged Emporia murder suspect was located in Roanoke Rapids Tuesday evening, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Major Scott Hall said it was unclear how long Devin Rawls, 24, had been in Roanoke Rapids.

He said the sheriff's office worked with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department to locate Rawls, who is from Emporia.

Rawls had been wanted by Emporia police and Sergeant Stanley Rodwell of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office received information about a possible location.

Rodwell and Lieutenant George Evans along with Roanoke Rapids Police Sergeant Daniel Jenkins and Officer Greg Colston located Rawls at an apartment on Timmy Lane, making the arrest without incident around 6 p.m.

Rawls was taken to the Halifax County Detention Center where he awaits extradition to Virginia without the opportunity for bond.
